Illusion This!

Darla and I watched The Illusionist last night. It was a very good movie, though it’s always struck me as strange to have a period piece that’s completely fictionalized, especially when it mixes in a few historical figures just for fun. That’s probably just me, though.

Still, Ed Norton is always incredible, and the plot was unfolded in a compelling manner.

OH MY GOD, WILL YOU SHUT UP?!?!

Darla and I saw Jet Li’s Fearless in the theatre a few days ago. Great flick, if you’re into epic martial arts movies — and I am — but it was what occurred in the seats that I thought I’d write about.

First of all, there were only about 20 people in the audience, yet four of them — a full 20% of those present — felt it was OK to talk during a movie. The two folks behind us were clearly discussing the movie (I could be wrong, as my Chinese isn’t so hot, but the rhythm and flow of their talk suggested as much), while the two numbnuts a few seats away and a row down to our right were just chatting away.

Clerks II

Quick note about a movie: Clerks II was pretty darned good. Darla had me watch the first one shortly before we left (didn’t much care for it, though I respect Kevin Smith’s accomplishment in making it for US$27,000). Second one was far more funny, and of course its budget was a tad larger. Roasario Dawson was terrific and fit right into the juvenile humor that is a hallmark of Jay and Silent Bob films. It’s not for everyone, far from it, but this uptight, doesn’t-like-potty-humor moviegoer enjoyed it (despite the potty humor).

Oh, and it’s still hot.
